Boost self esteem with outdoor activities at Gwent Outdoor Centres

We understand that for parents it can be a challenge to let your child  go on an outdoor activities trip, maybe staying away from home for the first time. We are happy to talk through any concerns parents have about the activities they will be doing. Please get in touch with us initially using the contact form.

Our philosophy is about helping young people challenge themselves by taking managed risks in an outdoor environment. We offer an experience they can't get in the classroom. There's nothing like a difficult rock climb or thrilling abseil to boost your child's confidence – they will return home glowing with pride! The value of such visits are well known and Adventure Activities are now part of the National Curriculum in Wales and England.

Highly experienced staff at Gwent Outdoor Centres

The teaching staff at the Gwent Outdoor Centres are highly qualified and experienced practitioners of outdoor education. We are happy to provide list of staff qualifications and experience.

Only staff with nationally-recognised qualifications will lead pursuits such as canoeing, rock climbing, mountaineering and caving. All teaching staff hold current First Aid qualifications.

While we encourage children to push themselves, we always put safety first. In the unlikely event of an accident, procedures are in place to ensure that professional help is always available and that parents are kept fully informed.

All buildings and equipment are properly maintained and inspected. The buildings that make up Gwent Outdoor Centres are regularly inspected for fire, legionella and food safety standards. Equipment is safe, well-maintained and appropriate for use.

We provide transport to and from activity sites – all vehicles are regularly maintained and inspected by Monmouthshire County Council. All vehicles are fitted with seat belts for all passengers.

Safety first for all

At Gwent Outdoor Centres our experienced staff always put safety first. We are licensed by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA), which is overseen by the Health and Safety Executive. The AALA was set up to ensure outdoor activity providers follow good safety management practices. These should allow young people to experience exciting and stimulating activities outdoors – without being exposed to avoidable risks.

We continually monitor and update our procedures to ensure the safety of the young people in our care.
